What does a technologist do?

A radiology technologist is a medical professional who performs diagnostic imaging exams using equipment to produce images of organs, bones, tissues, and vessels. In this role, you position the patient to take clear photos and work with radiologists who then interpret the images and diagnose the disease. With additional training, you assist with radiation therapy to treat cancer patients. There are various imaging techniques you can specialize in like cardiovascular-interventional radiography, mammography, bone densitometry, nuclear medicine, sonography, x-ray, magnetic resonance imaging, and general radiography. Qualifications include at least an associate degree and certification by completing an accredited program through the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technologists or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
