What does a product development engineer do?

A product development engineer takes data from researchers and decides how best to make a finished product. New product development takes time and trial and error. As a product development engineer, your responsibilities include the creation of design drawings, documents, and 3D models of prospective products. You work with research teams to ensure designed products adequately meet consumer needs, and also with marketing departments to ensure products can be usefully distinguished from competitors. You must also interface with legal and safety departments to ensure the products you design adhere to consumer safety standards.
