What does a groundman do?

A groundman assists with the construction and maintenance of power lines. In this career, you work on the ground below the lines, handing necessary materials and tools to other workers, such as conduit and cables. Your duties also include some prep tasks like gluing conduits together. In this position, other expected responsibilities include padding ditches and digging holes for setting poles, cleaning up job sites, clearing brush away, and operating some equipment such as a roto hammer and jackhammer. It’s also your job to let customers know if they can expect a disruption in their electricity, and manage traffic around the job if necessary.
