What does a technical writer do?

Technical writers prepare supporting documents that explain complex information in a clear, concise manner. As a technical writer, you develop how-to guides and instruction manuals, software application documentation, journal articles, product descriptions, and informational charts and graphics. To become a technical writer, you need a bachelor’s degree in expository or technical writing or a field related to the industry in which you wish to work, such as information technology, science, or engineering. You need good communication skills to discuss technical topics with product developers to inform your writing.
