What do labor and delivery nurses do?

As a labor and delivery nurse, your responsibilities and duties include caring for the mother and baby during labor and delivery and through the first few days postpartum. You monitor the mother during labor, checking her vitals as well as the baby’s, and administer fluids and medication as ordered by her doctor. You coach the mother through the labor process and assist the doctor with delivery. You also chart everything that happens during the mother and baby’s stay in the hospital. You may provide postpartum care for the mother and neonatal care for the baby.
