What is an internal auditor?

Internal auditors independently analyze and evaluate the inner workings of an organization to assess or improve compliance, management controls, and organizational governance. They examine financial records, including accounting and tax documents, check for legal or regulatory compliance, and evaluate overall business practices. Committee board members and business owners may also rely on internal auditors to improve the effectiveness of risk management and to conduct fraud audits.
