Career: Layout Technician

The qualifications that you need to work as a layout technician include a technical degree and job experience. Some employers expect you to have previous experience with reading blueprints and calibrating and operating a coordinate measuring machine (CMM). You may learn these skills through on-the-job training or an apprenticeship. Many employers prefer an associate degree in architectural technology, computer-aided-design (CAD), or engineering. You may also undertake training or certification through a professional organization, such as the Coordinate Metrology Society.
