How to become a geospatial technician?

Acquiring a position as a geospatial technician requires a bachelor’s degree in geography, computer engineering, GIS systems, geography, or a related field. Skills in computer modeling, 3D imagery, and GIS databases are also critical. Other qualifications include certifications surrounding GIS applications, which are widely available online and in-person via third party providers. These certifications allow you to take on extra duties within the technician’s role or help you get a technician position. Other responsibilities involve maintaining GIS databases for analysts and coordinating with them to calculate new data. Prior experience organizing large amounts of data within the GIS platform is an asset.
