How to become a builder?

The most common path to a career as a builder is an entry-level construction labor position or an apprenticeship. Licensing and certification requirements vary by state. During training, you gain valuable experience and skills working with many parts of the building process. You will usually handle prep work and cleanup, like supply delivery and building and tearing down scaffolding before getting more responsibilities. Alternatively, you can earn an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management and start in a building management position. Credentialing is offered through the Home Builder's Institute.
