How do an event producer and an event planner differ?

Event planners focus on the close details of an event, from the seating chart to food allergies. Event producers focus on the bigger concepts and the overall production. For example, you create the general floorplans, but you do not focus on the details of each footprint within the floorplan. The scope of the job remains the most fundamental difference between a producer and a planner. A producer uses a strategy throughout the whole event with the focus of achieving macro-goals, whereas a planner looks for the finer details (often under the direction of the producers).
