Job description

The YMCA of Central Ohio is hiring an Area Child Care Director to support and strengthen our school-age child care programs in the Pickerington Local School District. This is more than a job-it's a chance to lead with heart, support working families, and ensure every child has a safe, supportive place to grow before and after school.

You'll guide a team of 20-35 caring staff across multiple sites, championing program quality, team development, and compliance with ODJFS and SUTQ standards. You'll work hand-in-hand with school partners, families, and your team to create environments where kids feel seen, supported, and inspired every day.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has a bachelor's degree in education or a related field

  • Brings at least two years of experience managing licensed child care programs

  • Leads with empathy, purpose, and a passion for youth development

  • Thinks, communicates and behaves as a cause-driven leader and role model for other staff and members when it comes to desired staff behaviors; promotes youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in all job-related functions.

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the child care programs for assigned location(s).

  • Supervises all Site Directors/Coordinators within the assigned region.

  • Responsible for staff recruitment, hiring, training, and scheduling. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

  • Ensures high quality programs by visiting child care sites on a regular basis to observe and evaluate operations.

  • Assists Regional Director with budget development for assigned programs.

  • Responsible for monitoring assigned programs' revenue & expenses to ensure they operate within budget.

  • Assures compliance of ODJFS licensing, SUTQ*, NAEYC standards as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards (including HEPA) are met and safety procedures followed. *SUTQ responsibilities for all assigned school age and preschool programs.

  • Performs the duties of site directors or teachers during absences as needed.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with ODJFS, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

  • Assists the Regional Director with providing staff leadership for annual fundraising campaigns and committees as assigned.

  • Maintains proper department files including required paperwork for staff.

  • Provides assistance to other Y Club / child care programs as needed.

  • Organizes special events for Child Care programs and YMCA Branch if applicable.

  • Represents assigned branch programs by attending and participating in Program Innovation Team meetings and projects.

  • Assists site staff with maintaining written records for children's files, collecting and reporting program data as required by funding.

  • Assists in the marketing of programs, enrollment and distribution of program information.

  • Performs duties in the branch as assigned (building coverage, special events, etc.)

  • If applicable, complete duties as required by the Child and Adult Care Food program for your sites.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Manages a team of 20 - 35 staff in the childcare department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training and coaching employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
