Job description

COMPANY: Canoe Intelligence

WEBSITE: https://canoeintelligence.com/

TITLE: Director, Data Operations

LOCATION: Jacksonville, NYC, or London Hybrid

SALARY: $180,000 to $220,000 base salary + bonus and equity (based on NYC, will be adjusted for geo)

The Role:
The Director of Data Operations will design and lead Canoe’s data operations function at a uniquely interesting moment: Canoe already has the technology. What we're building now is the human expertise that makes it irreplaceable. The Director of Data Operations will own that build — designing the team, the processes, and the operational logic that turns proprietary AI into an institutional-grade data product. This is a rare kind of role: one where your domain knowledge doesn't compete with automation, it defines it.

What You’ll Do:

Build & Lead the Function

  • Build Canoe’s data operations organization across our Canoe Intelligence and Asset Data Operations businesses — define the team structure, hire the talent, and establish the operating model that scales with the business

  • Own end-to-end outcomes: data extraction, validation, and delivery — you are accountable for accuracy, completeness, and timeliness at every step

  • Recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing team with a mix of operations, data, and private markets expertise

  • Optimize the balance between offshore, onshore, and automated processing capacity — with a clear view of improving agentic data operations quickly

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Define and own the operational metrics that matter: SLA performance, extraction accuracy, completeness rates, exception volumes, and cost per unit — and build the reporting infrastructure that makes them visible

  • Design processes built for automation — every workflow you create should assume that AI handles more of it next week than it does today

  • Drive measurable improvement in cost, quality, and cycle time quarter over quarter — and hold yourself to the same standard you set for the team

Own the Data Extraction Domain

  • Develop and enforce extraction standards across investor reporting, fund-level data, and underlying asset data document types

  • Serve as the connective tissue between human expertise and AI — your team’s judgment directly informs how our models learn, and your operational design determines how far automation can reliably reach

  • Build and maintain GP-level playbooks and extraction logic that can scale across every client invested in a fund, enabling the Canoe data standard

Partner Cross-Functionally

  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Client Experience to align core workflows with platform capabilities and client outcomes

  • Partner with Client Operations as the operational authority — you will be in the room with clients when the conversation is about data quality, processing, and delivery

What We’re Looking For:

  • 10+ years of experience in data operations, investment operations, fund administration, private markets services, or adjacent fintech

  • Demonstrated success leading and scaling operational teams, with both people management and automation components

  • Deep command of private markets document types — capital calls, distributions, SOIs, financial statements, valuations, account statements, and more

  • Proven track record building or transforming operational workflows with measurable SLA outcomes

  • Experience designing processes that evolve from manual to automated execution — you think in systems, not just procedures

  • Familiarity with data validation, reconciliation logic, schema design, and downstream reporting requirements

  • Exceptional clarity in communication and cross-team alignment — you can translate operational complexity into language that lands with product, engineering, and the C-suite

  • Bias toward action and simplicity — you make the call, own the outcome, and don’t hide behind process

  • Startup mindset — you thrive where the playbook doesn’t exist yet and you’re the one writing it

Why this Role?

  • You will partner directly with C-level leadership to build a data business, not just a data team

  • Your decisions will shape client outcomes, product direction, and Canoe’s ability to continue scaling into the institutional and wealth markets

  • You will define the gold standard for data operations in private markets

  • This is not a role for someone who wants to optimize an existing machine. It’s for someone who wants to rethink data operations in the age of agentic workflow, AI, and the intersection of private markets

What You’ll Get:

  • Medical, dental, vision benefits

  • Flexible PTO

  • 401(k)

  • Flexible work from home policy

  • Home office stipend

  • Employee Assistance Program

  • Gym/Wifi reimbursement

  • Education assistance

  • Parental Leave

Our Values:

  • Client First —> Listen, and deliver client-centric solutions

  • Be An Owner —> Take initiative, improve situations, drive positive outcomes

  • Excellence —> Always set the highest standard for yourself and others

  • Win Together —> 1 + 1 = 3

Who We Are:

Canoe is reimagining alternative investment data processes for hundreds of leading institutional investors, capital allocators, asset servicing firms and wealth managers. By combining industry expertise with the most sophisticated data capture technologies, Canoe’s technology automates the highly-frustrating, time-consuming, and costly manual workflows related to alternative investment document and data management, extraction and delivery. With Canoe, clients can refocus capital and human resources on business performance and growth, increase efficiency, and gain deeper access to their data. Canoe’s AI-driven platform was developed in 2013 for Portage Partners LLC, a private investment firm.

Canoe is an equal opportunity employer. All aspects of employment including the decision to hire, promote, discipline, or discharge, will be based on merit, competence, performance, and business needs. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or any other status protected under federal, state, or local law.
