Job description

Field Strategy and Innovation Intern

NLIHC’s Field Strategy and Innovation Team shapes the organization’s field strategy to organize a national, diverse housing justice movement and build grassroots power at the state and local levels. The team works to advance racially and socially equitable policy change needed at the federal level to ensure that people with the lowest incomes have quality homes that are accessible and affordable in communities of their choice.

Over the course of the term, the Field Intern will assist the organizer team through research and outreach to tenant-centered, power building organizations across the organizers’ respective regions. The intern will also support membership engagement by updating member profiles in our database and assisting with planning for the fall convening of our state and tribal partners here in DC. In addition, the intern will participate in curriculum design for The Collective tenant leader cohort and Generation Housing Justice young adult fellowship, including the evaluation and selection of applicants to that fellowship. The Field Intern will also have the opportunity to write field update articles in our weekly Memo to Members and take on other special projects of their choosing.

Candidates should possess strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to balance multiple projects at a time. Previous experience with, or high interest in, student or tenant organizing is preferred. Candidates with direct experience of housing insecurity are strongly encouraged to apply.
