    Job description


    We are looking for a talented Welding Engineer - Senior to join our team remotely, specializing in manufacturing for our Cummins' business based out of Indianapolis, IN.
    In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
    Drive manufacturing excellence by leading the development and implementation of welding processes that consistently meet safety, quality, productivity, and business performance objectives.
    Improve product quality and reliability by applying advanced welding expertise to optimize process parameters, reduce defects, and ensure compliance with product specifications and industry standards.
    Lead strategic process improvement initiatives by leveraging continuous improvement methodologies to increase efficiency, reduce waste, lower costs, and enhance overall manufacturing performance.
    Establish and standardize best practices by developing welding standards, procedures, and working methods that improve consistency, repeatability, and operational effectiveness across multiple projects and facilities.
    Influence critical business and technical decisions by partnering with business leaders, functional teams, suppliers, and external stakeholders to align welding strategies with organizational goals.
    Advance manufacturing capabilities by identifying, evaluating, and implementing new welding technologies, equipment improvements, and innovative processes that strengthen competitive advantage.
    Lead complex cross-functional projects by coordinating internal and external resources, managing priorities, mitigating risks, and ensuring successful execution of multiple welding-related initiatives.
    Build organizational capability and expertise by coaching stakeholders, mentoring team members, and serving as a technical leader who elevates welding knowledge, collaboration, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
    Responsibilities
    To be successful in this role you will need the following:
    Develop deep technical and manufacturing expertise by mastering welding processes, welding automation, welding codes, machine programming, drawing interpretation, and manufacturing principles to design robust, compliant, and efficient production systems.
    Champion safety, ergonomics, and operational excellence by proactively identifying risks, implementing ergonomic workplace designs, and ensuring manufacturing processes support a safe, efficient, and injury-free work environment.
    Drive process optimization and standardization by creating effective process layouts, improving equipment utilization, reducing waste, and developing clear process documentation that ensures consistency, quality, and continuous improvement.
    Build strong relationships and communicate effectively by collaborating across functions, influencing stakeholders, valuing diverse perspectives, and clearly conveying technical information to align teams around shared manufacturing and business goals.
    Qualifications
    Education/Experience:
    • College, university, or degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) or related field, or equivalent experience required.
    • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
    • Intermediate level of relevant work experience required. (3 to 5 years manufacturing quality experience)

    Additional Details:
    • This role combines quality and manufacturing engineering skills. In addition to understanding welding fundamentals, the candidate will be responsible for
      • PFMEA/Control Plan Guidance
      • Establishing weld monitoring processes, KPIs, and governance
      • Documentation and deployment of best practices and lessons learned
      • Data analytics and continuous improvement
    • Travel requirements will be significant for the next 12-18 months
      • Domestic travel (including Canada) will be higher through Q3; at times as high as 40%.
      • International travel (Spain) will be required beginning in in Q3 and anticipated to be 25% through new plant start-up.
      • Travel to decrease and stabilize in 12-18 months.
    • Welding experience required. (Hands on Laser Welding experience preferred)
