What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Solutions Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solutions Engineer, you need a solid background in technical problem-solving, systems integration, and customer-facing experience, often supported by a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software, cloud platforms, APIs, and sometimes certifications like AWS Certified Solutions Architect are commonly required. Outstanding communication, active listening, and adaptability are crucial soft skills to understand client needs and present tailored solutions effectively. These skills and qualities are essential for bridging the gap between technical offerings and client requirements, ensuring project success and customer satisfaction.

How does a Solutions Engineer typically collaborate with sales and technical teams during the sales cycle?

As a Solutions Engineer, you act as a crucial bridge between sales teams and technical experts. You’ll often join client meetings to understand customer requirements, demonstrate product capabilities, and address technical concerns. Your role involves working closely with sales representatives to tailor solutions that meet client needs, while also coordinating with product and engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions are feasible. This collaborative environment requires strong communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.

What are Solutions Engineers?

Solutions Engineers are technical professionals who work closely with sales teams and clients to design, develop, and implement technology solutions that meet specific business needs. They act as a bridge between technical and non-technical stakeholders, helping to translate business requirements into actionable technical solutions. Solutions Engineers often demonstrate products, answer technical questions, and ensure that proposed solutions are viable, scalable, and tailored to the client's requirements. Their role is critical in pre-sales and post-sales processes, ensuring customer satisfaction and successful adoption of products or services.

Solutions Engineers and Sales Engineers often share similar backgrounds and work environments, focusing on technical support during sales processes. Job description

The Team

We are Datadog's in-house product experts. The Technical Solutions team enables Datadog's worldwide growth by educating potential partners and ensuring that our integration ecosystem is high-performing, secure, and valuable.

Partner Technology Solutions Engineers (TSEs) are the technical bridge between Datadog and our third-party developer community. We act as consultants, helping partners build world-class monitoring solutions on the Integration Developer Platform (IDP).

The Opportunity

Datadog is looking for a Partner Technology Solutions Engineer to join our fast-paced team. You will be the primary technical contact for our partners, guiding them through the entire integration lifecycle-from initial architectural design to final publication on the Datadog Marketplace.

This is a unique role that combines deep technical troubleshooting with high-level consulting and platform advocacy. You will work directly with external developers and see your contributions immediately reflected in the Datadog ecosystem.

You Will
  • Act as the technical lead for partners, advising on OAuth flows, log pipelines, OpenTelemetry, and agent-based vs. API-based configurations

  • Perform architectural assessments and deep-dive code reviews for partner integrations in the integrations-extras and marketplace repositories, ensuring they meet our Quality Rubric

  • Solve complex technical challenges for partners via Zendesk, Slack, and dedicated technical consultations

  • Identify friction points in our Integration Developer Platform (IDP) and partner with our internal Product and Engineering teams to build a better developer experience

  • Maintain public-facing developer documentation and internal tracking systems (JIRA) to ensure transparency and scale

You Are
  • A technical expert with 3+ years of experience in a technical role (Support Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or Software Development)

  • Proficient in at least one language (Python or Go preferred)

  • An observability enthusiast who understands monitoring fundamentals (Metrics, Logs, Traces) and modern standards like OpenTelemetry

  • A natural consultant with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to developers of varying skill levels

  • A tinkerer who is comfortable working with APIs, Linux environments, and cloud infrastructure

  • Someone who thrives in a hybrid work environment and values pragmatism, honesty, and simplicity
    Bonus
    •  Demonstrated ability to use AI coding tools in day-to-day workflows and validate, critique, and refine AI-generated output.
    •  You're motivated to push the boundaries of how AI can improve software engineering best practices and contribute to building AI-enabled products.
Why You Should Apply
  • Generous and professional development and equipment budget

  • Best-in-class, high-growth technical culture

  • Impactful role at the center of Datadog's growth

  • Inclusive workplace that values diverse backgrounds and experiences
