Houskeeper

RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for cleaning and servicing assigned areas. Willing to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis as assigned by the Housekeeping / Laundry Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum, high school diploma or equivalent
• Previous cleaning experience in a long term care/skilled nursing facility setting preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assembles materials and supplies from the supply room and transports them to the work area
• Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings and equipment and mopping floors with special cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent the spread of disease
• Uses damp, disinfectant-treated cloths and vacuum cleaner to dust window sills, blinds, floors, furniture, and equipment in an orderly fashion
• Scours and polishes sinks, tubs, mirrors, and similar equipment
• Replenishes supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items
• Requests help in moving heavy furniture and in turning mattresses. Reports any mechanical failures or negative conditions observed in assigned area to supervisor
• Washes walls and ceilings using water, cleaning solutions, sponge, and cloths
• Gathers and disposes of trash, washes wastebaskets and large refuse containers, and relines with plastic bags
• Removes soiled linen from all areas
• Promotes positive public relations with patients, residents, family members and guests
• Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations
• Use appropriate work place behavior and adhere to dress code at all times

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to withstand long periods of standing, walking, bending, and/or stooping; lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects from 10 to 50 pounds; ability to vacuums and other cleaning appliances; visual acumen required for inspections and recognition of hazards

WORK CONDITIONS:

As assigned, including some weekends, evenings and holidays; non-exempt position; exposure to dust, fumes, odors, gases, chemical substances, and electric currents; possible exposure to body fluids such as saliva, vomit, urine, blood, and semen during waste disposal and other routine activities
