What Is a Teradata Developer?

A Teradata developer is a data developer familiar with data analytics products made by Teradata. Typical duties for a developer include creating databases and designing programs for cloud storage. Qualifications for a career as a Teradata developer include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, or math, as well as experience using Teradata software and a working knowledge of other database languages, such as SQL. Useful skills include analytical problem-solving and the ability to work in a team environment to solve business-related problems.

How to Become a Teradata Developer

Many Teradata developers have a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, statistics, mathematics, or a related field. But some become proficient with the Teradata analytics products without a degree; they learn on their own through online courses and boot camps and build a substantial portfolio by practicing with the software. Companies value mastery of Teradata utilities, including Fastload and TPT, and familiarity with other database platforms and programming languages more than formal education. You must be able to process and analyze high volumes of data accurately and within your deadline. Additional qualifications include excellent communication and problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
