An orderly works in medical facilities taking care of the basic needs of patients. You act as a nursing assistant, handling basic tasks to free up nurses to perform their duties. In a hospital, you move patients between wards or guide them to the various services they may require. You may monitor patients and collect vital information about their condition for nurses or doctors. Orderlies find employment in healthcare clinics, nursing homes, and other settings in addition to hospitals and surgical centers.

An orderly is an entry-level position in the healthcare industry. Some facilities only require a high school degree, though most require orderlies become certified in first aid practices such as CPR and have other first aid skills. Despite not always needing higher education qualifications, you will often get on-the-job training and support for developing your healthcare skills. You can use an orderly job to springboard a career in healthcare. After getting some experience, you can study for a nursing degree or obtain certification as a medical technician.

Job Summary

We are looking for an organized and motivated Orderly to join our team. The Orderly will be responsible for providing assistance to patients and staff within the hospital setting. The Orderly will be responsible for cleaning, setting up for procedures, helping with patient movement, and ensuring the hospital is kept in a clean and orderly manner. This position requires excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, and other areas as assigned
• Change bed linens and make beds
• Set up for procedures as needed
• Assist with patient transport and mobility
• Follow infection control policies and procedures
• Stock supplies and check expiration dates
• Dispose of trash and hazardous waste in accordance with safety protocols
• Monitor and report any maintenance or safety issues
• Provide assistance to patients and staff as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience in a hospital setting is preferred
• Excellent customer service skills
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of infection control procedures
• Able to lift at least 50lbs
• Basic computer skills
• Able to stand for long periods of time
