What Are Line Striping Jobs?
Line striping jobs involve painting lines on roadways, parking lots, and other facilities, such as airports that require markings on pavement or asphalt. As a line striper, you may use a truck with striping equipment or a walk-behind striping machine. This may depend on the size of the project. You work from a blueprint that has a preset layout, and you measure the lines and symbols to ensure accuracy. As a line striper, your duties also include using stencils to create traffic symbols. Your responsibilities sometimes include operating other equipment, such as a grinder to remove old paint.
How Can I Get a Line Striping Job?
The qualifications that you need to get a line striping job include a high school diploma or GED certificate, a driver’s license, and the willingness to work outdoors in all conditions. Stripers also need fundamental math skills to read blueprints, set the striping machine, and take measurements to verify proper spacing of lines and symbols. You need a driver’s license to travel to work sites, and if you operate a truck, you need a commercial driver’s license (CDL) as well. Because you load paint onto machines and carry stencils, you need to have the physical ability to perform manual labor.
