By ZipRecruiter Marketplace Research Team

What Does a Game Developer Intern Do?
As a game developer intern, your job is to provide temporary support for the development of video games. In this role, you may work on one or more projects, experience various aspects of being a developer, and otherwise further your learning as a student. Internships in game development almost never last for the entirety of a development project. Creating games often takes years, and interns only work for a few months at most. Some larger companies may shuffle you through games at different stages of development to help you learn more about the changes that occur during the development process. This job title refers specifically to developing video games, but it is possible to find an internship helping create board games instead.
How Can I Become a Game Developer Intern?
The primary qualifications for becoming a game developer intern are being enrolled in a qualifying program and meeting any additional requirements set out by developers. This could include things like meeting a certain GPA or being available at set times for several months. Many game developer internship jobs are usually located in urbanized areas. These regions have far more game development companies, and remote game developer internships are relatively rare. Fulfilling the responsibilities and duties of a game developer intern requires research skills, attention to detail, communication skills, programming skills, and the ability to perform complex testing tasks as needed.
