What Is an ERP Developer?

As an ERP Developer, you develop and maintain Enterprise Resource Development (ERP) software. Your job duties include developing reports based on employee data, customizing elements of the ERP software system, adjusting the user interface and usability of ERP software, and updating the best practices guidelines. A career as an ERP developer requires you have some formal qualifications and education, typically at least a bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related field. To excel as an ERP Developer, you need strong analytical and critical thinking skills and prior experience working with business database systems.

How to Become an ERP Developer

ERP Developers need to have some formal training and education, usually in the form of a bachelor’s degree in computer science, business, finance, or computer engineering. For candidates with a bachelor’s degree, employers prefer at least three to five years of professional experience with ERP software; for an individual without a degree, you should possess at least five to seven years of concrete experience. ERP Developers are financially-savvy and have a thorough understanding of SQL database development and Advanced Product Quality Planning tools. While not often required, additional certifications in project management or auditing will augment your job prospects. Some employers mandate a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
