A computer artist works with computer software to design animation, graphics, or other multimedia images for movies, television, video games, web pages, or other online media. As a computer artist, you work with clients to determine the requirements of the design, their budget and timeline, and the overall scope of the project. Computer artists utilize a variety of computer software programs, such as Photoshop, Maya, and After Effects. The qualifications to become a computer artist include a bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer design, or a related field, and proficiency with a variety of graphic design software programs.
How to Become a Computer Artist
While becoming a computer artist does not require you have formal qualifications and education, successful artists typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in animation, graphic design, animation, media production, or a related field. The requirements for a computer artist job vary somewhat from employer to employer, but in almost all cases you need an online portfolio that showcases your artwork, particularly professional projects that went live. You can also earn vendor certification from software makers such as Adobe or AutoDesk, which highlight your technical skills.
