What Is the Job of an Assistant Store Manager Trainee?
Assistant store manager trainees work under the direction of the store manager. Your responsibilities are to monitor and supervise customer service provided by associates. You ensure your team members receive proper training, delegate tasks, determine work schedules, and provide constructive feedback. Depending on the type of store, your duties may also include supervising receiving, stocking, pricing and returning merchandise; supervising the overall store operations; resolving customer complaints; controlling store money; and maintaining compliance with company, state, and federal policies. You set the customer service example for the team and ensure the store is presentable throughout your shift. You may also begin to learn how to analyze retail financials and performance. Once you are proficient with the duties of the position, you move from being a trainee to the assistant store manager position.
What Are the Requirements to Become an Assistant Store Manager Trainee?
The qualifications to become an assistant store manager trainee are to have a high school diploma or GED certificate and experience working in retail, sales, or customer service. You must possess leadership and customer service skills, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to speak publicly. Many positions may also require computer proficiency and expect you to stand or walk for a full shift with occasional bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, or climbing a ladder.
