SCHOOL BUS DRIVER
VACANCY: The Valley View Public School District is seeking individuals to fill a Transportation School Bus Driver position effective immediately.
JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Transportation and dispatchers, this individual is responsible for safely transporting student s to and from school following assigned routes and schedules. Drivers may also sign for field trips, extra-curricular activity runs, etc. normally within a 50 miles radius of Valley View District boundary, but occasionally to more distant locations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Some of these duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Report to the dispatcher for job assignments before am routes and your pm start time.
  • Drives school bus on assigned routes, picking up and discharging students at designated locations.
  • School bus routes vary from day to day, based on the requirements placed on the Transportation department.
  • Depending on needs of department you can expect, on a daily basis, the possibility of being assigned a route/activity that may/will exceed your estimated punch out time.
  • Besides driving routes you may also be expected to drive activities and field trips when needed.
  • Maintains order on the school bus filling out appropriate reports as necessary.
  • Completes full DOT inspection of assigned bus before leaving the Transportation facility each day.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the bus and fuels daily.
  • Reports any deficiencies needing repair or maintenance.
  • Files all required reports.
  • Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the school bus; observes posted speed limits; and reports any accidents or damage to the appropriate Supervisor.
  • Ability to adapt to the special needs of the students
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Friendly and positive disposition in dealing with students and staff
  • Ability to supervise groups of students, while driving a bus.
  • No break s or suspension in Illinois Driver license for three years
  • Able to pass physical (pre-employment and annually) , includes ability to lift 75 lbs., back x-rays, T.B, drug and alcohol testing
  • Must hold or have the ability and requirements to obtain the required license and permit for Illinois School Bus Driver
  • Ability to successfully complete special education certification program
  • Bilingual a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS: The work year for this position is 180 days. The district offers excellent fringe benefits, including life, health and dental insurance.

  • $24.01 Per Hour
