POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance will have oversight of all financial functions within the O'Donnell School of Public Health (OSPH). The Director will be responsible for the long-term strategic financial planning process for OSPH. This position reports directly to the Dean of the O'Donnell School of Public Health and indirectly to the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Academic Affairs.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field and at least eight (8) years of progressively responsible related financial experience required.

PREFERRED
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience
  • Master's degree and ten (10) years of related experience preferred.
  • Related experience working in an Academic Medical Center is strongly desired.

JOB DUTIES
  • Partnership with leaders within the O'Donnell School of Public Health (OSPH) and Provost's Office to develop and execute strategic plans and to create and monitor financial outcomes.
  • Preparation of the annual operating budget for the O'Donnell School of Public Health and for the OSPH Dean's Office for approval of the OSPH Dean, including analyzing financial status, projecting income and expenditures, and allocating funding sources for Associate and Assistant Deans and staff.
  • Provide budget recommendations to respond to a wide range of issues, develops and recommends funding scenarios to address concerns, and facilitates resolution.
  • In association with Academic and Business Affairs, facilitation of long-range planning, budgeting, and forecasting for the OSPH.
  • Implementation of business intelligence tools to help monitor and improve productivity of OSPH faculty and staff.
  • Oversight of preparation of complex reports to the State and other agencies as required on various statistics regarding students, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and programs of the OSPH. Assists with the SACS and CEPH accreditation processes and all other surveys tracking students, postdoctoral scholars, and/or faculty.
  • Interact directly with Administrators on finance and performance questions, working with institutional decision support to provide timely management reports to OSPH leadership.
  • Perform analysis and make recommendations on complex financial methodologies involving grants management, gifts, endowments, state, and tuition & fees fund groups.
  • Partner with Academic Affairs to prepare and provide executive reports on monthly and year-to-date performance by the department and school level.
  • Coordinate analytical requests relating to financial and operational trends, gifts, endowments, grant trends, space efficiency, etc.
  • Resolve issues raised by OSPH faculty and administrators/business managers on matters related to finance, space, benchmarks, systems, etc.
  • Present OSPH financial information at leadership venues, faculty onboarding opportunities, manager meetings, etc.
  • Set strategies for department coordination on issues related to finance or compliance, translating into new policies and procedures, etc.
  • Maintain an ongoing capital plan for OSPH and help formulate financial strategies and contingencies to meet OSPH obligations. Provide supervision of OSPH Academic and Research capital projects through monitoring of budget, scope, and outcomes.
  • Understand the financial condition of OSPH and translate this data to an executive view for the COO and Dean's review
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
