Hospitalist (Hybrid – Days/Nights) | Clinical Physician

UT Southwestern Medical Center | Dallas, TX

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Department of Internal Medicine is recruiting Academic Hospitalists to join the Division of Hospital Medicine at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor.

This is a full-time position featuring a hybrid schedule of 50%-day shifts and 50%-night shifts, providing a unique opportunity to engage in diverse clinical experiences at one of the nation’s leading academic institutions. Our hospitalists provide direct patient care while playing a critical role in teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians, including residents and medical students.

Job Summary   

  • Provide exceptional clinical care to a high-complexity patient population on med-surg level units
  • Day shifts: rounding on general ward patients or admitting new patients
  • Night shifts:
  • Primarily admitting hospital medicine patients and patients on behalf of other medical services at night
  • Teach and mentor internal medicine residents and medical students while on teaching services
  • Collaborate with advanced practice providers in a shared visit model during some weeks
  • No procedures and closed ICU’s

Schedule

  • 7 days on/7 days off, with 12-hour shifts
  • 175 shifts per year
  • Alternate between days and nights every 4 weeks
  • Day shifts: Mostly 12-hour shifts (no overnight pager call)
  • Night shifts: Staggered shifts, Guarantee of either Thanksgiving Day or Christmas Day off every year (usually alternating years)

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree, or foreign equivalent, from an accredited institution
  • Board certified or board eligible with the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Unrestricted Texas medical licensure
  • Commitment to participation in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and other scholarly activities
