Project Engineer Building Division

Position Summary
Summit Skilled Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented Project Engineer to support building construction projects. This role is responsible for managing project financials, maintaining accurate cost reporting, and assisting field operations to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely project financial data; monitor and track costs, including force accounts.
  • Manage payment processes, including owner billings, subcontractor payments, purchase orders, and invoices.
  • Maintain and update job costing systems to reflect current budgets and forecasts.
  • Generate and distribute weekly manhour reports and monthly pay applications.
  • Support project status reporting and participate in project meetings; assist with meeting documentation.
  • Review and approve craft timecards, ensuring accuracy of hours, cost codes, and associated expenses.
  • Establish and maintain organized project filing systems.
  • Process field hires in coordination with corporate procedures.
  • Maintain submittal and RFI logs; ensure timely receipt and review of submittals and shop drawings.
  • Draft project correspondence under the direction of the Project Manager.
  • Identify and communicate contract-related changes or risks to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Monitor compliance requirements, including DBE participation and reporting.
  • Document project progress through weekly jobsite photography.
  • Assist with project closeout, including documentation and final reporting.
  • Interpret construction drawings and specifications; perform quantity takeoffs.
  • Verify work-in-place quantities for billing and ensure accurate subcontractor and supplier payments.
  • Maintain and update as-built drawings.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, specifications, and quality standards; coordinate inspections and testing.
  • Support safety initiatives, including toolbox talks, site inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Maintain required project safety documentation.
  • Promote company values, teamwork, and a collaborative work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Proficiency with construction-related software and Microsoft Office tools.
  • Basic understanding of cost control and financial reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Professional certification or registration is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May provide guidance to Field Project Coordinators and Interns/Co-ops.
