Job Summary
  • 10 Anesthetizing locations
  • 199 beds
  • 7,800 cases annually
  • Case mix: General Surgery, ENT, Orthopedic, Bariatric, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatric Dental, Podiatry, Robotic, Cardiac, Desire to do hearts
  • Shared primary and collaborative out of house call
  • Participation in hospital committee meetings
  • Role is: 70% Clinical, 30% Administrative
  • 10 call/month, rarely called in
  • 11-hour shifts
  • Anesthesiologists & CRNAS do their own cases, no CRNA supervision required


Responsibilities

Serves as the primary resource, point person and advocates for Departmental CRNAs. Responsible for the implementation of all administrative, personnel, and clinical functions pertaining to the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. Sets forth and assures compliance with policies relating to CRNA Employee Handbook and the Department of Anesthesiology Policy and Procedure manual. Coordinates in-services, allocates and assigns duties to staff CRNAs. Monitors quality measures throughout the department. Affirmatively works with Somnia, MDA, CRNA's to evolve the culture to one that embraces safety, respect, collaboration and emotional maturity. Monitors the activities of all operating components to ensure the Group successfully meets its objectives. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties
  • Continuous monitoring of effective and efficient patient care initiatives by CRNAs, including but not limited to, chart audits, visual audits, scanning of medications, syringe labeling, documentation as part of our on-site quality program. Helps prepare and meet with CRNAs for OPPEs.
  • Reviews, develops and maintains Departmental Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Administers anesthesia under the designated coverage model. Selects, obtains and/or administers the anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic; to maintain the patient's physiologic homeostasis and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery. Requests appropriate consultation for abnormal patients' responses to anesthesia or to any adjunctive medication or other form of therapy.
  • Ensures department staff are trained in service lines and follows protocols and hospital/department tools to improve individual and team performance employing best practices and ensuring quality and safety.

Operations Duties
  • Liaison for CRNAs with anesthesiologists and Somnia administration as well as OR and hospital leadership.
  • Performs CE evaluations for potential new hires, assessments, recommends, screens and interviews new CRNA hires within 72 hours of request. Offers insight into hiring and staffing strategy.
  • Coordinates and develops on-boarding process for all new CRNA hires and ensures record keeping process is in place for documentation of training and orientation processes for all new hires
  • Empowers and assists CRNA team in interdepartmental leadership roles such as board running, quality monitoring and other areas to strengthen the anesthesia team and leadership within the hospital
  • Works with on-site Administrator to ensure all personnel files are complete and maintained on site.
    Ensures anesthesia office requirements are maintained, such as chart signatures, pharmacy audits, etc.
  • Works collaboratively with site administrator Facility Medical Staff office, Somnia credentialing and on-site Administrator to expedite credentialing process when needed for all new hires and annual reinstatement of privileges for current CRNA staff.

  • Ensures all CRNA licensure renewal.
  • Coordinates with locum coordinator, on-site Administrator and locums tenens agencies to ensure necessary licensure, credentialing and provider enrollment numbers are obtained.
  • Schedules CRNA daily work assignments. Ensures the CRNA staff schedule is published at least 30 days in advance unless otherwise agreed upon by VP Clinical Operations or Medical Director.
  • Collaborates with on-site Administrator, OR Manager and Medical Director to ensure adequate staffing at all anesthetizing locations. Manages day to day operations as assigned which may include managing the board.
  • Works with interdepartmental committees to communicate departmental issues, as well Facility
    requests to department and represents/supports colleagues as indicated.
  • Schedules and conducts staff meetings with CRNAs to inform staff of changes in practice/employment
    policy and procedures. Resolves problem areas that are affecting operating efficiency.
  • Responsible for keeping morale at high level by ensuring policy and procedures are fairly applied.
  • Administers anesthesia under the designated coverage model. Selects, obtains and/or administers the
    anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, and fluids necessary to manage the anesthetic; to maintain
    the patient's physiologic homeostasis and to correct abnormal responses to the anesthesia or surgery.
  • Requests appropriate consultation for abnormal patients' responses to anesthesia or to any adjunctive
    medication or other form of therapy.
  • Participates in operation and planning projects as requested.

Budget/Financial Duties
  • Evaluates opportunities for improvements within the department and offers suggestions to implement positive change.
  • Participates on monthly Hospital Account Reviews and ensures Department stays within established personnel expense budget.
  • Ensures Department maintains adequate coverage models and ensures Department is complying with established proforma. If there is a need to deviate, this must be communicated to Medical Director and VP of Clinical Operations for review and collaboration.

Quality Duties
  • Coordinates, researches, implements and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies relating to all human resources activities concerning CRNAs.
  • Continues to improve interdepartmental relations by supplying educational lectures pertaining to anesthesia, as requested.
  • Continuous monitoring of effective and efficient patient care initiatives by CRNAs, including but not limited to, chart audits, visual audits, syringe labeling, documentation.
  • Conducts monthly rounding with each CRNA to assess the quality of patient care and to identify problems and shares report with appropriate individuals (VP Ops, MD Director, COO, etc.).
  • Ensures CRNA compliance with Outcome Form completion is greater than 95% and all adverse events are reported into the Quality Program.
  • Establishes proactive training programs for providers based on outcomes reporting.

Compliance Duties
  • Responsible for narcotic control, regulatory drug compliance, safety, radiation safety, infection control, Joint Commission, MACRA/MIPS reporting and OSHA compliance.
  • Stays up to date with anesthesia regulatory requirements, state/national meetings and generates in-service for Department of the latest trends and best practice recommendations suitable for Department and other Somnia sites.
  • Ensures all forms used at site are compliant with Joint Commission, Medicare Conditions of Participation and billing.
  • Performs random documentation audits on provider charts to ensure compliant documentation.

Administrative Duties
  • Actively participates in benefit and compensation package procurement and creation, investigates CRNA benefit questions and collaborates with benefit plan administrators regarding problem resolution.
