Schedule: Full-Time | EST Hours
Work Arrangement: Remote / Hybrid for candidates within 50 miles of Pittsburgh

Sigma Systems Inc. is seeking an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer for a 6-month contract opportunity. This position will join an Agile software engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and deploying complex, scalable applications across digital platforms.

This is primarily a 100% remote opportunity, with preference given to candidates located near Pittsburgh, PA. Candidates residing within 50 miles of Pittsburgh will be required to work onsite 2-3 days per week.

Candidates must be available to work Eastern Standard Time (EST) hours.

What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable full-stack software applications.
  • Create technical designs and engineering specifications for applications and programs.
  • Develop clean, efficient, maintainable, and fault-tolerant code following established coding standards.
  • Participate in code reviews and software engineering best practices.
  • Evaluate technical solutions and technologies based on functionality, scalability, performance, and long-term architecture.
  • Translate design mockups, prototypes, requirements, and user stories into working applications.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements and technical design through development, testing, and production deployment.
  • Work within an Agile/Scrum development environment and participate in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and other Scrum ceremonies.
  • Develop user stories, acceptance criteria, Definition of Done (DoD), estimates, and development tasks.
  • Track development activities and assignments using tools such as Jira or RTC.
  • Monitor development progress against project schedules and communicate technical issues or blockers.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, product teams, Scrum Masters, and other technical stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior and associate software engineers as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience using one or more general-purpose programming languages such as:
    • Java
    • Python (Django/Flask)
    • JavaScript
    • C/C++
    • C#
    • Objective-C
    • Go
  • 5+ years of experience designing solutions or developing applications in healthcare environments.
  • 5+ years of experience defining system architectures and evaluating technical feasibility and architectural trade-offs.
  • 5+ years of experience translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into production-ready applications.
  • 5+ years of experience developing efficient, maintainable, scalable, and fault-tolerant code.
  • 3+ years of experience with algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns used to build scalable, highly available systems.
  • 3+ years of experience with at least one modern programming language, including Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, or Informatica.
  • 3+ years of experience with at least two of the following technologies:
    • React
    • Angular 4+
    • Node.js
    • NoSQL databases
    • HTML5
    • CSS
    • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
    • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience with web services and API technologies including REST APIs, HTTPS, and JSON.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum software development environment.
  • Strong understanding of the complete Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
