Overview
The Summer Promise program is comprised of students grades 1-12 who receive daily instruction in core subject areas and provides enrichment activities. The Program Assistant supports the lead classroom teacher in implementing the daily lesson plans and group activities. The person in the role must embody Peter Paul's values and share a passion for the mission by overseeing a high quality, safe experience for all students. All Peter Paul employees are expected to maintain high expectations for self, colleagues, students and families and must maintain a professional, ethical and responsible attitude to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Support the program with implementation of daily lesson plans and group activities
  • Encourage group thinking, curiosity and discovery
  • Assist in the implementation of Peter Paul's daily expectations and behavior system
  • Commitment to total classroom engagement
  • Participate in staff meetings and serve on planning and special events committees
  • Participate in recommended training programs, conferences, courses and other aspects of professional growth to acquire knowledge of current best practices
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or currently enrolled in college courses
  • Experience working with school age students
  • Strong classroom management and organization skills
  • Excellent oral, verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of and familiarity working in an urban setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in the Virginia Standards of Learning
  • Subject matter expertise in science, technology, engineering, art or math

Position Schedule
This is a part-time, hourly position that is expected to work starting June 15, 2026 through August 7, 2026. The Summer program hours of operation are between 8am-4pm Monday-Friday.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour
