What You'll DoA Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, assembling, and distributing medical instruments and equipment used in surgery center. You will help ensure that surgical tools and medical devices are safe, functional, and ready for patient care.
Typical Duties
- Decontaminate used surgical instruments and medical equipment
- Inspect, assemble, and package instrument trays
- Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves
- Track and document sterilization processes
- Maintain inventory of sterile supplies
- Ensure compliance with infection-control and safety standards
- Deliver sterile instruments to operating rooms and clinical departments
- Communicate with Reps for loaner trays
- Strong attention to detail - able to carefully inspect instruments and follow sterilization procedures exactly
- Reliability and consistency - follows protocols every time to protect patient safety
- Organization skills - manages instrument trays, inventory, and workflow efficiently
- Ability to work under pressure - stays focused in fast-paced hospital or surgical settings
- Team-oriented mindset - works closely with surgical staff, nurses, and other departments
- Mechanical aptitude - comfortable handling sterilization equipment and medical tools
- Commitment to infection control and safety standards
- Good communication skills - reports issues clearly and documents processes accurately
- Prior healthcare or sterile processing experience
