The PGA of America is moving to Frisco, Texas – the "2018 Best Place to Live in America” - where it will anchor a 600-acre, mixed-use, golf-centric development, including the golf club, future Omni resort and PGA headquarters. Currently under construction, the golf club will feature two championship golf courses, a 10-hole short course, a two-acre putting course and a 37-acre practice facility. The future two-story clubhouse will offer golfers and guests alike a 19th hole restaurant, private dining on the second floor overlooking the fairways, upscale lounges and locker rooms and a golf shop designed to entice all levels of fans from PGA tournament players to weekend golfers and other enthusiasts.


Omni PGA Frisco Golf Club is seeking a summer intern for the summer of 2023. As a Omni PGA Frisco intern, there are general expectations you must fulfill. Applicants must be enrolled in either a 2 year or 4 year turf program, and have at least one year of experience working on the golf course. Interns will be subject to long hours and flexible work schedules and be dedicated to the maintenance team. You will work closely with Superintendents and Assistant Superintendents learning all aspects of the maintenance operation, especially the intricacies of growing a variety of warm season grasses.

Duties also include the following:

  • Operates hand mowers on greens, aprons, tees, fairways, rough, lake banks, around tees and grounds. Exercises extreme care not to injure turf and shrubs. Practices safety while operating equipment. Reports equipment or course issues immediately.
  • Edges cart paths, flymo bunker faces, string trim lake banks and around tees, edges and rakes sand bunkers. Sand bunkers can be either hand or machine raked. Completion of jobs and clean up of the work area as required.
  • Helps in project work as directed.
  • Excavates and back fills trenches with hand tools, operates utility vehicles as required.
  • Makes sure while operating equipment and hand tools, that all necessary and supplied safety equipment is worn. (Glasses, ear plugs and hard hats) and that all tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored and maintained as required.
  • Cleans machines after use and makes minor adjustments to the equipment under the supervision of the mechanic.
  • Maintains fuel and fluid levels for all types of equipment on a daily basis and before use, inspects equipment before use and reports problems or failure to the supervisor immediately. Operates equipment in a safe and effective manner with attention to task completion.
  • Stays on cart paths where available and does not further impact high traffic areas.
  • Practices safety on the job, including but not limited performing job tasks with little or no disruption to the members and guests playing the golf course, returning of all equipment to the designated location and keeping the maintenance areas clean and free of clutter.
  • Picks up trash and debris while performing job duties.
  • Is courteous and conscientious of golfers and homeowners.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 to 4 years of accredited program and at least one-year experience in either golf course maintenance, sports turf, lawn care or other related turfgrass management related field.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • The ability to read a limited of two-and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
  • The ability to print and speak simple sentences.
  • The ability to communicate and understand directions and concerns either directly or through an interpreter.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • The ability to add and subtract simple items such as time or limited quantity or size equations.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • The ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
  • To ascertain between proper and improper operation and actions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid state driver’s license.

TRAINING/EXPECTATION

  • Facility orientation, hazard awareness and property tour will be provided prior to any initial on course activity.
  • Expectations and performance requirements will be clearly set during this period.
  • The employee will be provided with the training, tools and follow up to perform job duties as required. Training will be documented in an effort to describe the individual accomplishments and level of success for each operation.
  • This training will come in the form of video tapes, field training, shop area training and staff meeting attendance.
  • The employee will be informed of on site hazards and the properties concern for staff welfare and protection. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided and documented as required for the position.
