Overview

The Caf & Catering Operations Manager is responsible for assisting the National Constitution Center General Manager with the efficient, professional, and profitable operation of the Delegates Caf, Starbucks, and Catering Operations.  The Caf & Catering Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all Caf / Starbucks and Ops team members (f/t and p/t) and ensuring full compliance with state and federal labor laws, sanitation and food-related ordinances, and alcohol service regulations. The Caf & Catering Operations Manager will actively supervise, coach, counsel, direct, train and mentor Caf employees in meeting company quality standards and will independently initiate and authorize all employment actions such as hiring, termination, suspension, discipline, and promotion within the Cafs.  The Caf & Catering Operations Manager will actively and independently manage all aspects of employee relations to ensure a positive, harmonious, compliant, and cooperative work environment in the Constitution Centers Cafs and Starbucks.

 

This is a key position for the effective and profitable operation of the business.  The employee must maintain excellent attendance and be available to work a variable event-driven schedule, which includes evenings and weekends.  Open availability, professional presentation, outstanding interpersonal skills, self-direction and strong management and independent decision-making skills are required.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overall effective management of Caf, Starbucks and Catering operations including guest complaints, inventory controls, product ordering, training new employees, cash controls, cleaning, safety, guest service, operations warehouse oversight, closing duties, food preparation and production, financial reporting
  • Assist in the management of catered events from set-up to tear down, including all communication with hourly staff and culinary staff. 
  • Ensure legal, efficient, professional, and profitable operation of the venue. 
  • Conflict resolution; last-resort mediation; arbitration and labor negotiations, when applicable
  • Evaluate recent historical sales and purchasing data for the purpose of identifying purchasing patterns and accurate cost of goods. 
  • Program and maintain the point-of-sale system to ensure accurate financial reporting, tracking of accountability, and commodity levels by location. 
  • Directs and assists Caf & Starbucks team in preparing attaining future goals. 
  • Provides each employee with the proper direction and follows up on all assignments. 
  • Inspects the operation on a regular basis to ensure that the established quality standards are maintained. 
  • Prepares required reports accurately and submits them on time, follows up with supervisors to ensure that their reporting is completed within the same guidelines. 
  • Ability to read and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs), itemize and organize deliveries to and from the kitchen and commissary, and maintain a clean and safe working environment. 
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure that caf and Starbucks receive daily orders in an efficient and organized manner. 
  • Expected to comply with company standards of uniform and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ensures total compliance with all alcohol service policies. Monitors alcohol service throughout event to assure 100% compliance with Alcohol Service policies.  Reports any alcohol service or compliance issues to OVG management immediately. 
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal instruction. Organize and assist throughout the duration of a catered event in addition to ensuring the delivery of equipment, food, and supplies to and from the venue. 
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in food prep or catering required 
  • Must have a valid drivers license issued in the state that they reside with a clean driving record.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to multitask.
  • Ability to be self-directed while working in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and long hours.
  • Desire to learn and grow in a professional working environment.
