About Meritus Orthopedic Trauma We specialize in the comprehensive management of acute musculoskeletal trauma as part of our busy Level III Trauma program-the most active in Western Maryland. Our team provides 24/7 access to advanced orthopedic trauma care, including immediate operative and non-operative interventions for severe injuries to bones, joints, and soft tissues. We emphasize integrated, multidisciplinary approaches to ensure optimal outcomes in a supportive, patient-centered environment.
What You'll Do as an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon at Meritus Health, you'll:
  • Provide emergency surgical care, including immediate operative and non-operative management of traumatic injuries to bones, joints, and soft tissues
  • Perform advanced reconstructive procedures for complex fractures, including pelvic and acetabular surgery
  • Collaborate closely with trauma teams, anesthesiologists, critical care specialists, rehabilitation staff, and other multidisciplinary providers to deliver integrated, high-quality patient care
  • Participate in teaching and mentorship of residents, fellows, and medical students in surgical techniques and trauma management
  • Manage inpatient and trauma-related orthopedic cases with a focus on timely intervention and long-term recovery
  • Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the EMR
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and trauma program development

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution; completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopedic Surgery residency required. Fellowship training in Orthopedic Trauma preferred.
  • Experience: Board certification in Orthopedic Surgery required (or board eligibility with active pursuit of certification). Experience in trauma care, complex fracture management, and high-volume trauma settings preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Active Maryland medical license (or eligibility to obtain). Current DEA Registration and CDS permit required. Current BLS (CPR) certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Demonstrates critical thinking, extensive clinical competence, and surgical expertise in orthopedic trauma. Strong ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at all levels. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Knowledge of case management, outcomes management, and managed care.
