Medical Coder - Outpatient Senior (Remote)

JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Coder-Outpatient Senior assigns current international classification of disease (ICD) diagnosis codes, current procedural terminology (CPT) codes and other charges as appropriate for outpatient services based on clinical documentation. The individual will typically be working with services coded for outpatient visits, diagnostic visits, emergency department, minor procedures, homecare/hospice, dialysis, and other ancillary service records. The Medical Coder-Outpatient Senior understands and applies applicable medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes. This individual will utilize their leadership, analytical and problem solving skills to complete audits, identify and resolve coding issues and to educate staff for training purposes or to optimize the coding billing results.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of the following courses per department procedures, within one year of hire: current international classification of diseases (ICD), health care procedure coding system (HCPCS), and medical terminology.
Preferred/Optional: Associate degree in Medical Billing and Coding, Health Information Management or related field.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required: Three years of coding experience.
Preferred/Optional: Three years of progressive outpatient coding experience.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder
Payer (CPCP), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician Based (CCS-P) certification awarded by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or other approved coding
certification program.
