RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Springfield, MA is seeking an experienced Senior SQL Server DBA to support and modernize enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments. This is a true contract-to-hire opportunity. The initial contract term is expected to be 6 months, with the goal of converting the right candidate to a full-time salaried employee. This role is hybrid, requiring 3 days per week onsite in Springfield, MA.
Summary
This role will focus primarily on on-prem Microsoft SQL Server administration, while also supporting modernization efforts around Azure, automation, DevOps collaboration, and Microsoft data platform technologies. The ideal candidate is a hands-on DBA who can support production environments, improve processes, and work effectively within a small technical team.
Responsibilities
* Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases
* Support database performance, availability, security, and reliability
* Manage backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability processes
* Troubleshoot production issues related to performance, connectivity, and access
* Perform performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and capacity planning
* Review, validate, and deploy database scripts and changes
* Support SQL Server patching, upgrades, migrations, and integrations
* Partner with DevOps and infrastructure teams on automation initiatives
* Assist with database configuration, permissions, and deployment readiness
* Develop or support automation using PowerShell, scripting, SQL Agent, or related tools
* Contribute to Azure/cloud modernization and future CI/CD efforts
* Maintain documentation, standards, and operational procedures
* Participate in an on-call rotation for production support
REQUIREMENTS:
* Strong hands-on SQL Server DBA experience
* Experience with T-SQL, SSMS, performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization
* Production support experience in enterprise database environments
* Backup/recovery, restore validation, disaster recovery, and database security experience
* Experience with SQL Server patching, upgrades, migrations, or cumulative updates
* Azure experience, ideally with Azure SQL or related Microsoft cloud data services
* PowerShell, scripting, automation, or DevOps collaboration experience
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in a lean DBA team
* Ability to work onsite in Springfield, MA 3 days per week
* Candidates must be able to work W2 and convert to a full-time employee

Preferred Skills:
* Microsoft SQL Server or Azure certifications
* Microsoft Fabric exposure
* CI/CD or database deployment automation experience
* Terraform or Infrastructure as Code exposure
* Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, or Synapse experience
* Power BI, SSRS, SSIS, or broader Microsoft data platform experience
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
