POSITION SUMMARY

At our Girl Scout retail store, we interact with girls and their families at pivotal moments in their Girl Scout experience and with our wonderful volunteers, who give their time and talents to their troops. You will experience the joy of helping a brand-new Daisy pick out her first uniform and the satisfaction that comes from helping a new troop leader learn the ways of Girl Scouting and how to tap into the myriad of resources available to them. You will get to form a relationship with our customers, many of whom are repeat visitors. We are a small department, so you will have the opportunity to do a bit of everything, even assist with the occasional pop-up shop where the storefront could be at one of our camp properties.


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provides high-quality customer service to all internal and external customers by portraying a positive image of Girl Scouting.
  • Sets a positive and welcoming atmosphere by greeting walk-in and phone-in customers warmly, taking care of customers' needs where possible, and referring customers to other staff members when needed.
  • Interacts with other staff members in a positive way, providing support wherever possible.
  • Assists with the efficient and effective operations of the council retail shop to meet annual sales objectives while utilizing sound merchandising techniques.
  • Assist with ordering, receiving, stocking, and displaying shop merchandise at the direction of the Retail Director.
  • Ensures that sales floor and stockroom areas are clean, neat, and organized.
  • Assists with periodic and annual inventories and maintains accurate inventory controls to meet the seasonal needs of the shop's customers.
  • Manage mail and delivery services for GS - Diamonds to include postal mail, inter-office mail, and overnight mail services and delivery shipments.
  • Ensure the proper and accurate receipt of money, checks, and other types of payments, and prepare and make timely bank deposits according to individual office procedures.
  • Aid in maintaining and updating processes and procedures related to the Retail Specialist job duties.
  • Assist with periodic pop-up shops and events.
  • Share knowledge with other retail specialists regarding best practices.
  • Participates and contributes to the development function of the council.
  • Assists with various Product Program duties including, but not limited to reward check-out and cupboard inventory processing, retail store cookie sales, etc.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor. (Duties will vary according to the regional office.)

There are times throughout our year when the work of other departments becomes heavy and/or critically timely. Examples may include but are not limited to-membership recruitment/renewal campaigns and efforts, product program logistics and support to include cookie cupboards and volunteer assistance, volunteer appreciation and engagement, retail inventory and delivery (among regional offices), program signature event participation, and support, and property maintenance/improvement as requested.

KNOWLEDGE AND CREDENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • High school diploma - college a plus
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • Microsoft Office Suite knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)

Preferred

  • Experience in retail, related merchandising, business administration, or a related field
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout Leadership Experience

ABILITY AND SKILLS QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships with other staff members, visitors, volunteers, and the public via telephone, email, and in-person
  • Planning and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced work environment with the ability to multi-task while maintaining composure
  • Work requires normal physical effort for primarily an office environment; some physical effort in the handling of materials or boxes and tools or equipment of up to 50 pounds in non-strenuous work. Some periods of continual standing or walking may be required. Regular and prompt attendance required
  • Subscribes to the principles of the Girl Scout Movement
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, work independently, and meet deadlines
  • Strong human relations skills and can work well with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to exercise good judgment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Solution-driven with the ability to effectively problem solve

HOURS AND TRAVEL

  • Approximately 24 hours a week, with additional hours for meetings, projects, and events
  • Timely and willing to work nights and weekends
  • Possible travel at approximately 5%
