GAI Consultants, Inc is seeking a Bridge Project Engineer to work within our Western Pennsylvania offices with our Transportation Business Unit. The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment that will utilize their related work experience to develop professionally into a well-rounded engineer with the ability to grow in today's nationwide environment.
Experience Required
  • 8+ years of engineering experience on a variety of bridge types (structural steel and precast concrete).
  • Experience with AASHTO and PennDOT standards, structural directives, specifications, and design manuals.
  • Experience with structural analysis and bridge design.
  • Proficiency in Midas, CSI Bridge, AASHTOWare BrR, AASHTOWare BrD, MDX, Leap Bridge Concrete, and other design and rating software packages.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation and Open Bridge Designer.

General Characteristics
  • Applies thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering related to the variety of aspects affecting the transportation business.
  • Applies progressively acquired expertise to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting their practice and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of projects.
  • Leads projects of moderate complexity and scope or leads a major project.
  • Attends professional society events and develops industry relationships.
  • Analyzes ethical dilemmas to determine appropriate courses of action. Applies broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area.

Minimum Years of Experience
  • 8+ Years of Experience

Education
  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Registration in other states is desirable.

Technical Responsibilities
  • Occasionally serves as the technical advisor in the application of advanced concepts and methods in an assigned area.
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the practice for the purpose of recommending changes in projects or applications.
  • Ability to properly apply and communicate engineering concepts, processes, materials, or products.

Project and Task Management
  • Oversees a project team of engineers and technicians.
  • Plans, schedules, and coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple projects.
  • Contributes to and follows project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Understands project delivery uncertainties and uses risk management principles to address them.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and performance measures.
  • Mentors' direct reports and or other engineers.
  • Integrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering and fosters creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability in staff.

Communication Skills
  • Applies principles of formal strategic and persuasive communications.
  • Represents their area of specialty within the practice and liaises with related individuals and practices.
  • Routinely interacts with practice leaders, clients, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership.
