FHSANTHONY "BUGGY" RICHARDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (Freehold High School Students)

One (1) $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Freehold High School.

The Anthony "Buggy" Richardson Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Freehold Borough's own, Anthony Richardson. Anthony graduated from Freehold High School in 1987 and passed away from cancer in October 2014. The scholarship and, more importantly, the recipients will serve to honor the memory and legacy of Anthony.

Anthony was a three-sport (football, basketball and baseball) athlete at Freehold High School. He earned eight varsity letters while leading the teams to division titles. As a baseball player, he earned All-District and All-Division honors. As a football player, he earned All-District, All-Division, All-County, All-Shore and All-State honors as the starting quarterback. It was these honors that helped him earn a full athletic scholarship to Temple University. Anthony excelled at Temple as the quarterback of the football team. He was the only quarterback to have a winning record in decades at the University until 2009. Anthony graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Marketing & Education from Temple University in 1991.
After graduating from Temple, Anthony went on to have a highly successful career in sales. He won numerous awards including the prestigious Pinnacle Award while at Bristol Myers-Squibb. Before passing, Anthony worked as a sales representative for Genoptix. Anthony was inducted into the Freehold High School Athletic Hall of Fame in May 2010.

Anthony was a success on and off the field, but above that he was loved and respected by all. He was a true leader. The recipient of this scholarship will need to embody the same qualities as Anthony. They should be a well-rounded athlete and individual, who not only wants to succeed but wants to see others succeed as well. They should be a leader and a protector of others.
