Job description
NC-DHHS is seeking a Senior mainframe developer to provide support for multiple efforts in NC FAST and legacy Child Welfare applications. NC FAST is seeking a Senior Mainframe Developer to support several mission-critical systems and processes. This role will provide technical expertise for ongoing interface operations, inquiry-only applications, the Child Placement and Payment System (CPPS), and Central Registry applications for the Child Welfare program. Additionally, the position will support PATH NC Data Conversion activities. Primary responsibilities include leading data conversion efforts and implementing application enhancements based on evolving business needs. The developer will diagnose and resolve application issues and provide production support using technologies such as CICS, COBOL, DB2, JCL, VSAM, stored procedures, and other supporting mainframe tools. This role also involves senior-level business and systems analysis, modeling and design, and programming using COBOL, CICS, and DB2. Duties include participating in effort estimation, consulting and planning for system modifications and enhancements, and monitoring technical activities to ensure alignment with schedules, milestones, and deliverables. The developer will also provide regular status updates, time reporting, and ensure quality assurance and compliance with state, departmental, and divisional standards. Please note: This position requires on-call availability for nightly batch processes, including both weekdays and weekends.
Required / Desired Skills
- Experience in software development and debugging using mainframe technologies such as Cobol, CICS, JCL, DB2, TSO, VSAM
- Hands on experience in programming using DB2(Z/OS), DB2 SQLs, stored procedures
- Experience with source code management tool like Endevor
- Experience with QMF, SPUFI, and FILEAID/CA-tools.
- Extensive experience in debugging COBOL/DB2 application code using tools like XPEDITOR/CA-Intertest
- Experience with X/PTR(reporting tool)
- Experience with Zeke or similar job scheduler tools
- Experience with structured system development methodologies such as agile (preferred), waterfall
- Experience in understanding and gathering business requirements, reviewing specifications, developing test cases, and performing unit/system testing
- Excellent written and presentation skills using Microsoft Office tools (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Ability to develop good working relationships/partnerships with clients
- Ability to translate and communicate highly technical concepts to both technical and non-IT business users
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational and time management skills
- Participate in on-call support for nightly batch processes
- Experience with CA-Easytrieve/Plus
