The Cedarville University Department of English, Literature, and Modern Languages seeks Assistant/Associate Professor of English candidates. Rank is commensurate with experience and credentials. Eligibility for a tenure-track appointment will be determined based on institutional needs and candidate qualifications at the time of hire.
Our friendly, supportive, and motivated department places a high priority on our Christian identity, integrity, collegiality, and rigor in the classroom. This position requires the candidate to teach a range of courses within the English, Literature, and Modern Languages Department, including first-year English composition and general education literature surveys, as well as courses within the candidate's area of specialization, such as developmental writing, literature, rhetoric, and/or advanced composition. Enthusiasm for first-year English composition is a plus.
Additional expectations include academic advising, professional development, scholarly activity in the field, University service, and a formal paper on Biblical integration of faith, learning, and teaching. The teaching load is twenty-four credit hours (4/4), or the equivalent, each academic year of two semesters.
Employment is subject to the University's verification of credentials along with other information required by law and Cedarville University policies, including the successful completion of a background check. Position Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in English, literature, or a related discipline is preferred. A.B.D. will be considered. Minimum qualification is a Master's degree in English or a closely-related discipline.
  • Applicants for Associate Professor rank will have an established record of scholarship and 6 or more years of full-time undergraduate teaching experience.
  • Qualified applicant will have documented successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Qualified applicant will have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team member.
  • Qualified applicant must be committed to biblical integration in and out of the classroom.
  • Qualified applicant must be a born-again Christian with a personal commitment to Jesus Christ.
  • Qualified applicant must agree with and be willing to abide by Cedarville University's Doctrinal Statement, Community Covenant, and General Work Place Standards.
