The North Florida Council is hiring a full-time Community Scouting Executive, which offers flexibility to work from home and within your service territory as you oversee Scouting operations.


The Scouting professional’s role is to inspire, recruit, train and support volunteers while working with community leaders to rally public support for Scouting, which is accomplished by traveling locally to visit local chapters and meet with volunteers and other committees to execute annual plans.


The North Florida Council is headquartered in Jacksonville, FL and serves more than 7,000 youth across 17 counties. For the past twelve years, the North Florida Council, B.S.A. has been recognized on a national level for achieving and exceeding finance, governance, program, and membership standards and is looking to expand to meet anticipated organization growth in the fast-growing Northeast Florida region. 

 

The North Florida Council is a separate 501(c)(3) entity from the National, B.S.A. incorporated in the State of Florida. Local B.S.A. councils operate and are governed as a separate entity under the direction of a local board and do receive vital program, membership, IT, camp development, employee, and other support services from the National B.S.A. organization. 

 

The Community Scouting Executive selected will:

  • Provide support to the management team in working with a volunteer board of directors and other community and business leaders to target potential new relationships for program and financial expansion.
  • Work with and advise volunteer operating committees to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.
  • Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include: volunteer recruitment and training, membership recruitment and retention, fundraising and program development through collaborative relationships.
  • Be responsible for extending programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations through volunteers.
  • Secure adequate financial support for programs in assigned area. Achieve net income and participation objectives for assigned camps and activities.
  • Recruit leadership for finance campaign efforts to meet the financial needs of the organization.
  • Ensure that all program sites are served through volunteers, regular leader meetings, training events and activities.
  • Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The executive must have communication skills and be able to explain the program’s goals and objectives to the public.
  • Provide quality service through timely communication and support, training and meetings.
  • Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieve council and district objectives.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Strong sales, fundraising, marketing and program development background is highly desired.
  • Non-profit, fundraising or sales experience is a plus.
  • Self-motivated individual with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills in management, budgeting, and planning.
  • Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences. Excellent people skills, enthusiastic, punctual, responsible and creative.
  • Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.
  • A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (transcript with the date degree conferred stated is required for employment).
  • Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities and weekend work is frequently required to achieve positive objectives.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and have an automobile with vehicle insurance.
  • Must apply for and receive Commissioning (completion of basic training) from the Boy Scouts of America.
  • Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one week.
  • Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference and motor vehicle background checks.

 

Compensation:

All councils are equal opportunity employers.
