Job description

BB&E is an employee-owned, full-service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering, and Program/Project Management Services to the Federal and private sectors.

Position Summary

BB&E is seeking a Civil Engineer to provide design and technical support for NAVFAC Southeast in Jacksonville, Florida. This role supports mission-critical military infrastructure projects and involves close collaboration with engineers, architects, and construction professionals. The work encompasses design and oversight of new construction, repairs, renovations, and demolition projects across Navy and Marine Corps installations.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop civil design drawings, specifications, and calculations for site development, utilities, grading, drainage, and airfield or waterfront facilities.
  • Provide technical consultation and design review for new construction, repairs, and renovations of Navy and Marine Corps facilities.
  • Conduct field investigations, prepare engineering analyses, and evaluate design solutions to ensure compliance with DoD and NAVFAC standards.
  • Coordinate with structural, mechanical, electrical, and architectural disciplines to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Review design submittals, cost estimates, and contract documents for technical accuracy and constructability.
  • Support project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to ensure designs meet scope, safety, and performance requirements.
  • Participate in design and coordination meetings and provide input on site and utility design.

Requirements

    • U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain/maintain a NACI/CAC is required
    • Demonstrated ability to prepare and review AutoCAD plans, engineering calculations, and technical specifications.
    • Knowledge of NAVFAC and DoD design criteria, UFC standards, and civil engineering codes and practices.
    • Proficiency in civil site design software and hydraulic analysis tools.
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
    • Familiarity with Federal project delivery methods and NAVFAC design-build standards.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited program (required); master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional civil design experience, including at least 1 year supporting Federal or DoD projects.
  • Experience developing plans and specifications for site development, utilities, drainage, or airfield/waterfront infrastructure.
  • Pavement experience is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand/walk/climb/kneel/crouch and remain in a stationary position/sit at least 60% of the time.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Capable of lifting up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to see details of objects that are less than a few feet away.
  • Ability to understand the speech of another person, speak clearly so listeners can understand, and talk or hear both in person and by telephone.
