Job Description Summary:

Provides clinical psychology services to youth (birth through 21 years) with significant developmental, behavioral/emotional and learning disorders and the families of these patients, in an outpatient setting. Includes diagnosis, evaluation, treatment (individual, family, group therapy), consultation, and discharge planning. Includes communication and collaboration with physicians, multidisciplinary therapists, graduate trainees, families, school personnel, and other healthcare and community providers.

Major Responsibilities:

Direct Patient Care: Maintains caseload of evaluation, treatment and consultation cases.
  • Provides a range of psychological services, including: a) comprehensive psychological evaluations, both singly or as part of a multidisciplinary team; and b) direct therapeutic services, including individual/family therapy, therapeutic and social skills groups, and parent training.
  • Maintains a faculty clinic and provides evaluation and consultation in select subspecialty clinics
  • Collaborates and consults with school, medical and therapy professionals in the community, as appropriate, to ensure diagnostic and treatment goals are met in all environments.
  • Communicates with other healthcare providers to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Provides long-term follow-up, consultation and re-evaluation as necessary.
  • Maintains appropriate professional licensures and related requirements such as continuing education.
  • Completes all required steps to ensure appropriate documentation and billing in a thorough, accurate and timely manner, e.g., notes and reports in EMR, documentation for insurance verification, billing.


Administrative:
  • Remains current on new and revised evaluation instruments, disability and special education regulations/laws, and the clinical and psychological literature on best practices in the field.
  • Assures that documents of evaluations, consultations and therapy are provided in a timely manner.
  • Follows HIPAA/Advocate Healthcare policies for maintaining confidentiality of protected healthcare information.
  • Follows procedures to maintain security of evaluation instruments.
  • Participates in practice, department and division meetings as well as in-services, as assigned.
  • Submits appropriate billing for services rendered.
  • Maintains professional license(s) including continuing education requirements.


Program Development:
  • Helps leadership to develop services and engage in special projects.
  • Participates on process improvement teams.
  • Participates in Advocate research projects as appropriate.
  • Conducts trainings/presentations to educate consumers and the professional community.
  • Participates in ongoing quality assurance and safety programs.


Licensure:
  • Psychologist Clinical


Education/Experience Required:
  • Doctorate in Psychology with specialization in child/adolescent clinical or school psychology or behavioral psychology.
  • Minimum 1 year supervised, post-doctoral experience.
  • 4-5 years experience in the treatment of children with developmental disabilities and/or behavior challenges.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Computer literate. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work with multidisciplinary team.
  • Active license in the State of Illinois as a Clinical Psychologist.


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to work well with a multidisciplinary team including MD, ST, OT, PT, SW.
  • Well-developed clinical skills as well as good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to evidence-based interventions, to staying current on the pediatric literature, and to modifying practices and recommendations in response to the literature.
  • Behavior/crisis management skills in emotionally elevated situations with pediatric patients.
  • Knowledge of special education programs, regulations and laws.
  • Adaptation to high stress.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills in potentially adversarial situations.
  • If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
