Role description:

The Resilience Water Business Line of Arcadis is searching for a Control Systems Engineer/Programmer to join our world class consulting firm in Phoenix, AZ. The ideal candidate will have studied computer control systems, logic systems, and industrial controls. 
The primary focus of this role will be to provide senior level process control systems programming and design in a multi-discipline team environment for the collection, treatment, and distribution of water for public use.

Role accountabilities:

As a Control Systems Engineer/Programmer, you will support projects and clients in the planning, design and construction of water/wastewater facilities and other industrial facilities. The role involves providing engineering services during construction phases, encompassing activities such as reviewing equipment submittals, shop drawings, and responding to contractor RFIs (request for information).

In this role, you will develop and review unit process control logic within PLC platforms and design graphical HMIs, OITs, data archiving, and reporting solutions across various technologies. You will create clear, accurate documentation and technical memorandums while applying your expertise to execute SCADA projects from initial design through startup and turnover. This role includes performing factory acceptance testing, field checkout, commissioning, and troubleshooting of process control systems as well as identifying critical issues across process, mechanical, and electrical disciplines. 

You will mentor junior engineers and support project planning by preparing budgets, cost estimates, and execution strategies for SCADA and instrumentation control assignments. Additionally, you will develop technical and design criteria, including P&IDs, SCADA block diagrams, control narratives, schematics, panel layouts, instrument sizing, and interconnection diagrams while providing I&C design to advance plant automation efforts. Some travel may be required for site visits, client meetings, safety audits, planning activities, or construction oversight based on project needs.

To be successful in this position the candidate will need to be performance-driven, team-oriented and outgoing with a committed work ethic. The ideal candidate will have a strong educational background, good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work productively and cooperatively in a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project and Outlook) is also required. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • Academic emphasis on computer controls, logic systems and industrial controls.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience. 
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) / Engineer in Training (EIT) license or ability to obtain within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Knowledge of Allen-Bradley and Modicon PLCs and their use.
  • Knowledge of HMI graphics development using Aveva System Platform, Inductive Ignition, GE iFix, or VT SCADA.
  • Knowledge of compliance reporting software using SQL, SSRS, Crystal Reports, or Dream Reports.
  • Basic working knowledge of AutoCAD, BlueBeam Revu, or other graphic drafting development software.
  • Active participation in regional and/or national professional associations.
  • Experience working for a consulting engineering firm or systems integrator.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
