Sr. Cost Accountant
Buffalo Grove, IL - Fully onsite
Job Summary
The Cost Accountant is responsible for planning, studying, and collecting data to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases, labor, and overhead. This position will analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs, supporting the management team in making strategic financial decisions.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting system, documentation, and records.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Monitor inventory transactions and reconcile inventory accounts.
  • Assist in month-end close of the General Ledger and cost accounting entries.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities by providing cost data and analysis.
  • Conduct physical inventories and monitor the cycle count program.
  • Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services provided to determine effects on cost.
  • Provide cost estimates for new products and product modifications.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with operations and engineering to improve cost accuracy and operational efficiency.
Requirements:
  • 7+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Syteline or Made2Manage experience a plus).
  • Experience with standard costing systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills; proficiency in data analysis and financial modeling.

Nice to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA is a plus).
