Job description

 What You Will Do:
We are looking for a Software Engineer who does DevOps. Experience in network systems and Linux systems administration would be highly preferable. You will be working to configure, maintain and test distributed networking systems. Unlike a traditional DevOps role, you will not always have direct access to deployments. Thus, you will be developing automated, self-healing systems. You will also be accepting a leadership position within the engineering team. Consequently, communication and teamwork skills are essential in this role.
We live at the intersection of distributed systems and software defined networking; two fields with immense potential and a laundry list of Client challenges. Automation and programmatic control of networking systems is a burgeoning field and this is your chance to join a team leading the revolution. If you are comfortable with a cutting edge tech stack and greenfield development then this position is for you!
Requirements:
  • ssh
  • bash, zsh or another common Linux shell
  • Experience managing Linux servers
  • Docker, rkt, or LXC containers
  • Fluent with git or another distributed version control system
  • Experience with Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Salt, or some configuration management system
Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:
  • Virtualization systems such as KVM or Xen
  • Mesos, Marathon, or Kubernetes
  • Cloud orchestration systems such as OpenStack is desirable
  • Distributed systems is especially desirable, particularly experience with ZooKeeper

Info on culture:
-We are not a 9 - 5 pm. Folks have flexible hours. Some folks come in at 8 am, some at 9, and others at 10 pm but the expectation is to work hard - it is a Startup. If folks have worked for organizations where engineers only work six hours a day - this is not the right spot for them because ultimately we need to get a product built. But, we do value flexibility in general. Have a day you need to work from home because contractors are going to be at your house? Cool. Have a day where you need to shoot across town for a meeting and don't want to come to the office that's in the opposite direction - cool, work from home that day. Feeling just off for the day, cool - work from home. Ultimately, we are a group of driven individuals set out to change the world of networking, we need people who have a hunger to build stuff.
 - We don't have a PTO policy. People take off time when they need it. As long as the work is getting done, take the time off you need.
- We also like to have fun. Upcoming events: ax throwing and race car driving.
 - We are still building a product, GA is at the end of the summer. Need you to assess their willingness to be in a startup environment that is fast paced, dynamic, full of more questions than answers, and young from a business perspective. We just closed our Series A - for some folks that's freaky. We need folks comfortable with ambiguity.
-We are a feedback, honest, and performance-driven culture. Folks have to be willing to operate in this environment. We are also highly collaborative - no one team drives the business. We are not one of those companies intent on being "engineering-focused." Everyone is important so no prima donnas please.
