POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Workforce Development leads NPMA's efforts to raise awareness of pest control careers, attract new talent into the industry, and secure the funding that fuels these initiatives. This position is charged with designing and promoting national awareness campaigns that introduce the pest management profession to audiences who may never have considered it. From career changers, students, transitioning military and veterans, and job seekers outside of traditional pipelines, and converting that awareness into applications and hires for NPMA member companies.
A central responsibility of this role is fundraising and revenue generation. The Director will cultivate, solicit, and steward financial investment from pest control companies and industry suppliers, building sponsorship, and multi-year partnership commitments that sustain and expand NPMA's workforce development programs. The Director will also investigate available workforce grants at the federal, state, and private levels and work with contract grant writers when applicable.
The Director will collaborate closely with the NPMA Workforce Development Steering Committee and other appropriate committees and workgroups as needed. She/He will also collaborate with external stakeholders such as the National Association of Workforce Boards and the National Association of State Workforce Agencies in addition to current partners like the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences (MANRRS), Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG), and Skillbridge. The Director is expected to become the internal subject matter expert on workforce items within the industry, lend support to related association initiatives, and oversee the marketing agency tasked with awareness campaigns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Workforce Short, Medium and Longterm Planning
• Work with supervisor and committee leads to develop, adapt and implement a multi-year plan to drive NPMA’s Workforce Development Initiative.
Awareness & Career-Promotion Campaigns
• Design, launch, and promote national awareness campaigns, pointing career seekers to pestcontroljobs.com, that build visibility for pest control careers and drive qualified candidates to member companies.
• Direct the PR/advertising agency relationship and manage the workforce pipeline through digital, PR, and advertising outreach across consumer and candidate audiences. Effectively manage the P/L budget associated with the WFD program.
Promoting Careers to New Audiences
• Introduce the pest management profession to individuals who may be unaware of the industry, including career changers, students, transitioning military and veterans, and job seekers outside of traditional pipelines — positioning pest control as a stable, rewarding, and mission-driven career.
• Develop and manage an NPMA microsite with resources for member companies.
Industry Fundraising & Investment
• Cultivate, solicit, and steward financial investment from pest control companies and industry suppliers — securing sponsorships, and multi-year partnership commitments that fund and grow workforce development initiatives.
• Build and manage a portfolio of investor and partner relationships, delivering compelling cases for support, stewardship reporting, and demonstrable return on investment to sustain long-term funding.
Grant Seeking & Management
• Investigate available workforce grants at the federal, state, and private levels and work with contract grant writers when applicable.
• Pursue additional funding avenues including academic partnerships, supplier partnerships, association/WIOA channels, and other identified partnerships.
Supporting Responsibilities
• Assist the industry in navigating the challenges and embracing the opportunities related to workforce development, creating an environment to recruit and retain employees for member companies.
• Manage and disseminate workforce metrics on employment, retention, recruitment, and return on investment, providing actionable data on workforce trends and statistics to guide hiring practices and industry planning.
Staff Liaison Assignments
• Staff Liaison — Employee Recruitment & Retention Committee
• Staff Liaison — Workforce Development Steering Committee
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• At least 10+ years of experience in workforce development, fundraising/development, or a closely related field, with demonstrated success promoting careers or programs to new audiences.
• Demonstrated fundraising success in cultivating and securing sponsorships, corporate investment, or partnership revenue from companies and/or industry suppliers.
• Demonstrated grant-seeking experience, writing, securing, and managing federal grants, with WIOA experience preferred.
• Experience designing and executing awareness, marketing, or career-outreach campaigns, including managing PR agency relationships.
• Experience identifying drivers of engagement, benchmarks, and best practices.
• Experience assembling industry career and job information, including job progressions.
• Experience identifying career development opportunities and managing partnerships with universities, technical schools, and community colleges.
• Experience working with federal and state workforce development boards.
• Ability to aggregate and analyze labor and workforce statistics.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft persuasive messaging for candidates, investors, and partners.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
• Executive presence and confidence presenting to senior industry leaders and volunteer boards
• Natural relationship-builder with a consultative, not transactional, approach to fundraising
• High energy and authentic enthusiasm for storytelling and career-awareness messaging
• Comfortable balancing multiple audiences (donors, committee, agency partners, government) with adaptable communication style
WORK ARRANGEMENT
This is a full-time position. NPMA offers a flexible work environment with core hours of 8:30am to 5pm Monday through, with eligibility for telework Monday, Thursday and Friday. Travel will be required, estimated to be around 20% for industry events, partner association meetings and workforce conferences.
