Job description

Job Summary:
Hunterโ€™s Fabrication is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Planner / Buyer to support our growing manufacturing operations. This role is designed as a developmental position with broad exposure to production planning, procurement, ERP systems, inventory coordination, and operational workflows.


The Planner / Buyer will work closely with the Operations Manager / General Manager to support daily manufacturing execution while building the operational knowledge necessary for future leadership growth. This role is a strategic investment in operational continuity and organizational resiliency by reducing dependency on single-person knowledge and ownership of critical ERP and production coordination functions.

Essential Duties:

30%

Production Planning & Scheduling

  • Assist in creating and maintaining production schedules to support customer delivery commitments and shop efficiency.
  • Coordinate material availability with production priorities and fabrication timelines.
  • Monitor work orders, production status, and schedule adherence within the ERP system.
  • Communicate schedule changes, shortages, and production constraints to operations leadership.
  • Support capacity planning and workflow prioritization across fabrication activities.

20%

Purchasing & Supplier Coordination

  • Purchase raw materials, consumables, and outsourced services required for production.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess stock.
  • Develop and maintain vendor relationships to support quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Track supplier performance and proactively address material shortages or delays.
  • Request and review vendor quotes as needed.

ERP & Data Management

  • Support daily ERP transactions and system accuracy including:

Purchase orders

Work orders

Inventory transactions

BOM maintenance

Item master updates

Receiving and material allocations

  • Assist in improving ERP discipline, reporting accuracy, and operational visibility.
  • Help document procedures and workflows to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to ERP usage and operational processes.

Operational Support & Development

  • Partner closely with Operations leadership to gain exposure to broader manufacturing management responsibilities.
  • Learn production processes, workflow sequencing, labor coordination, and operational decision-making.
  • Support operational problem-solving and cross-functional coordination between purchasing, production, and inventory.
  • Assist with documenting standard operating procedures and process improvements.
  • Serve as a backup resource for critical operational and ERP functions.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, production planning, purchasing, inventory control, or related operational support roles.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and follow-through skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with willingness to learn operational leadership functions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in fabrication, metal manufacturing, or industrial production environments.
  • Exposure to production scheduling or supply chain coordination.
  • ERP experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of BOMs, inventory control, and manufacturing workflows.
