Job Statement:

Use wire cutting machines to cut and strip wire and cable for assemblies. Performs task in the areas of machine set up, machine operation, and machine general maintenance. May also use manual tools to cut and/or strip wire and cable. Works under direct supervision of Wire Processing Line Lead.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify proper specifications from cut sheets and job orders.
  • Manually and digitally set up wire cutting machines to job specifications.
  • Basic maintenance and troubleshooting of wire cutting machines for proper setup and operation.
  • Inspect products to ensure they are within specifications.
  • Minimize scrap through proper operation, maintenance, and set up of machines.
  • Communicate problems with machine operation and set up to supervisor.
  • Miscellaneous other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.
OPTIONAL DUTIES
  • Stripe wire using wire striping machine.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to see and differentiate colors.

  • Ability to work while standing, many tasks require standing all day.
  • Ability to maintain a brisk pace and meet generally accepted production rates.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school education or relevant work experience required.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English required.
  • Mechanical skills/knowledge and machine operation experience required.
  • Knowledge of wire cutting machine operation desirable.
  • Ability to convert between fractions and decimal equivalents.
  • Ability to read a ruler to 1/64 of one inch.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Well lit, air conditioned, and heated facility with a moderate noise level. Wire/cable and terminal debris and compressed air tools. While performing the essential duties of the job the employee will stand on a concrete floor most of the time.

HAZARDS

Compressed air, electrical shock, rotating equipment, and cutting.

REQUIRED SAFETY EQUIPMENT

Safety glasses and close-toed shoes with a solid sole. Optional hearing protection.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

The expected rate for this position is $16.50/hr.
